Supermoto Demo Race on the River

On Sunday July 30, 2006, 35 Super Motard bikes converged on the New Westminster Quay for a Super Motard Demonstration day. The day began with morning practice session, then a Stunt Show, and 2 rounds of bar bashing high flying SuperMotard Racing.

After the first round of practices the weather turned nasty on us, giving all a good taste of the North West moisture. Due to the heavy rainfall we took a short break. Once the rain subsided and the sun came out and the 2 nd round of practices began. The rest of the day was brilliant sunshine on the riverfront. As the tarmac dried up the bikes began to fly off the ramps effortlessly and the pace around the track continued to heat up.

Due to the rain delay, the half time Stunt show started behind schedule, but was thoroughly entertaining for all. The Stunt team pulled off all kinds of combo endos, a mixed bag of back wheel balancing tricks, and whole lot of tire smoking action to finish it off.

The final race schedule began with the DRZ 400 and +25 on the line together. Then the schedule moved on to the Mini Motard class, Vet, Intermediate A, Intermediate B, Novice, and finally the Open Expert class. There were many great battles in each and every class. All the riders had at least a couple of people to duel it out with.

We really want to thank all the riders for coming out to support this first annual event. Special thanks go to the riders who traveled great distances to come and be a part of Vancouver history. The US riders and the Island riders made especially long trips at great expense to join us. And the biggest thanks go to all the guys and gals who volunteered their time and energy to help us bring this event together. We look forward to more events similar to this in the near future. We certainly hope to see the same familiar faces return to play, along with the new and curious ones as well.

Hey guys,

Good news in Supermoto world! I have found some owners of a kart track in
peterborough that are very very interested in bringing supermoto to their
track...

First off there are no facilities just some port o pottys, however the
layout of the track is really cool. It's a 1/2 mile course with some pretty
fast straights, shicanes and sweepers... The track is approx 20 ft wide for
the most part and 25 ft wide in some spots. The lap times in a shifter kart
are just over 32 seconds (approx) per lap..so I'm guessing that it's about a
40-45 sec SM pavement section.

I've walked the track and discussed most of the details with the owners and
they are excited at the idea of having open practices twice a week including
one day every weekend. They would love to see us put on club races there as
long as we provide our own insurance. But as far as riding there goes they
are fully insured for motorcycles, SM bikes, pocket bikes and minis.

Oh and they will put in a dirt section with no questions asked if they get
enough riders.. I've offered to build the dirt section with my own equipment
to help out.

Now some of the in field course is being updated as we speak and the run off
is a little tight.. But the owners have agreed to give us more run off..
I've stressed that if they want people to come the course needs more run off
so they are very flexible.

I want to try to organize a day for everyone to come try this place out to
see what they think.. The owners, myself and others are willing to make this
place a permanent SM riding track so your input is valued. And this place is
no RDT track like at mosport... But it's a cheap place to ride.

ANYONE who wants to come out for the first ride on it is welcome.. We plan
to test the track Sunday June 18th.. We can spend the whole day if we like.
Please reply back to me and I will forward you directions.
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!!!!!!!

2006 CMRC
NATIONAL / PROVINCIAL Supermotard Schedule.

2006 Canadian National Supermoto series Beginning
June 3rd

Repentigny , April 13 th - The CMRC Quebec sanctioned Canadian National Supermoto series is kicking off on Saturday June 3 rd in Trois-Rivières, Québec. Over 200 riders are scheduled to show up for the season opener. An awesome Dirt section will be added to the existing karting track.

An excellent schedule has been put together this year by promoter Buddy Ford who will be working closely with Steve Beattie and Ted Baker (Nasmoto) to develop Canadian Supermoto racing to its full potential.

Mandatory for all Supermoto events taking place in Quebec for 2006: all bikes have to be equipped with TEFLON OR NYLON sliders properly fastened to foot pegs, handlebars and both axle bolts . Catch cans are also mandatory at every event in both provinces. If we want this sport to gain momentum on the karting tracks we've got to prevent the ½ inch scars occurring when the motorcycle hits the pavement.

Attention all SuperMoto Canada Riders,

We would firstly like to apologize for the delay in getting the schedule posted. It has been a struggle to confirm dates with many others involved as we try to continue growing supermoto.

Over the last 3 years we have built an organization focused on running quality events that are fun for the spectators and safe for the riders.

The final event at the Docks was to be the culmination of years of hard work and effort by putting on the largest and most exciting race with competitors coming from all around the globe. With the tight confines of our location and the magnitude of the event it became clear that we had sacrificed rider safety in an effort to put on a show.

Valuable lessons have been learned as well many thousands of dollars spent and lost hosting that and other events.

For 2006 we have had to take a step back and rethink our business model. We have made the decision to work more closely with Buddy Ford from CMRC Quebec to merge the events and create the championship with 3 in Ontario and 3 in Quebec.

The sport will continue to grow with strong races with NASMOTO at the Hershey Centre July 9th and at the Festival of Horsepower in Sarnia. We are planning to add other events or track days as details get confirmed. We are planning to have track days at Shannonville May 27 and at Mosport September 10.

Weekly track time and practice will be held at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. There is a large-scale construction project at the Hershey Centre so we will be adapting the track and layout to maximize what space is available to us.

Membership dues have been reduced to $50 in an effort to be inline with the number of events offered.

I encourage all riders and enthusiasts to consider visiting a NASMOTO event this summer. Each round will be a Regional Qualifier for the NASMOTO AMA Grand Championship at the Queen Mary in Long Beach CA, November 3, 4, 5, 2006.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the track!

Ted Baker,
SuperMoto Canada

Old and young honoured at Canadian Motorsports Gala

Mississauga, 02/04/2006

The Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame (www.cmhf.ca) held this year's induction gala at a star studded black tie affair this past Saturday. The event included such luminaries as keynote speaker Scott Goodyear and multi-time Le Mans and sports car champion Ron Fellows.

One of this year's inductees was long time Canadian motorcycle competitor and organizer John De Gruchy. In a career that spanned from 1957 to 1975, De Gruchy competed in all forms of motorcycle racing and won over 100 professional races in Canada and the United States - amongst countless other accolades.

As winner of Inside Track Magazine's "Up and Coming Motorcycle Racer of the Year" award, Adam Jabouri was honoured to present Mr. De Gruchy at the induction ceremony (see photo). "John De Gruchy did every kind of racing" commented Adam, "from trials to motocross to road racing - he did it all, and is an inspiration to everyone."

The gala event was also an opportunity to present the Reader's Choice Awards. "Racer of the Year" going to Ron Fellows, "Up and Coming Car Racer of the Year" going to Pete Shepherd, who recently signed with NASCAR's Roush Racing, and Adam Jabouri receiving the "Up and Coming Motorcycle Racer of the Year" award (see photo).

The evening was a fantastic celebration of Canada's rich motorsports history, with a nod to the younger generation of racers that are poised to carry the Maple Leaf for many years to come.

With the 2006 race season around the corner, Team Jabouri Racing is staying sharp through ice racing, as well as some motocross practice at an indoor track in Ohio. At the recent SuperMoto Canada Awards Banquet, Adam was presented with 2nd place in the Premier Mini class championship - despite a shortened season due to injuries. "Next year, I will riding in the SM2 and SM1 classes, where things will be much tougher," explained Adam "Kawasaki has the best bike in both classes, so that will help the transition."
